Avonbank Crosses The Pond

October 2008

2008 sees Avonbank (Evesham) Brass band reach the grand old age of 60. But far from taking things easy, as most 60 year olds would be contemplating, the band is intending to do the opposite! There are many celebratory concerts and events planned. Keep checking the Diary Page for news of these events.

But the BIG event for 2008 is a trip 'over the pond' to the United States of America.
We have been invited to visit Evesham, New Jersey (our twin Town) during October 2008.

This is a formidable task! Taking up to 30 players along with instruments across the Atlantic Ocean for a series of concerts, hopefully making friends and forging links between ourselves and the people of New Jersey along the way.

Think about it for a while……
Think about the organisation involved taking a brass band to America!
Think about how much a B-flat bass weighs and how much it will cost to transport at least two of them to America!
Then think about two E-flat basses, two euphoniums, two baritones, three trombones, three horns and eight cornets all the way to America........... (And back!!)

You can now start to imagine the cost of this trip, we are estimating about £10,000!

We are looking for sponsors.
But we are not asking for you money for nothing. For any cash donation we will proudly display you name or your company name on all of our concert programmes for 2008. You will get complimentary tickets to our concerts and much more. Please come and talk to us if you think you or your company would be able to help.

If you do not feel you are able to become a sponsor there are other ways of helping us. All you have to do is to turn up at our concerts in this important year. Our concerts are normally well supported, but in this important year we would love to have your support.
